From stay at home boy to Lazer Quest challenger

Kieran Clarke didn’t often leave his house prior to signing up to DurhamWorks. Since signing up to the DurhamWorks Train Tracks programme, he has managed to make friends and start to build his confidence through team building games.

“I signed up to DurhamWorks and Jo visited me at home. She told me about Train Tracks and I was excited because this sounded exactly what I wanted to do.

I hadn’t done anything since I left college and I was scared to join in with others but Jo introduced me to Lucy and she told me all about what we would be doing.

I really wanted to make friends as I didn’t often leave my house except with my mum.

The first session I got dropped off by my Grandad to the workplace in Newton Aycliffe and I met the rest of the group. We played team building games and I got to meet the other young people. I found it hard at first to remember everyone’s names. I felt I got on well with others in particular Demi, Mark, Danielle and Corey.

I really enjoyed Lazer Quest and we went running in the woods to play the game. I wasn’t in the winning team but it was still great fun.

I struggled when we went to Durham as I struggle on buses and didn’t know I had to keep my ticket, but Lucy helped me.

I really feel Train Tracks has helped me as it got me out of the house and without it, I would have still be sat at home”.
