Community Integrated Care were looking for colleagues who are passionate about social care. DurhamWorks’ recruitment and selection service was the perfect way for them to find people with the right attitude for the role, so much so that they’ve taken on five DurhamWorks young people.
Community Integrated Care are a national social care charity with more than 5,000 staff across England and Scotland. They deliver life-enhancing support to people with a range of care needs, including people with learning disabilities, autism and dementia.
The charity’s Recruitment Co-ordinator in the North East, Michelle, was looking for support workers to help people live independently, when she found out about DurhamWorks from our Business Advisor Emma. As Community Integrated Care support staff work with people in their own community, it’s essential that they live locally, share the values of the organisation and have passion for the role they do.
When they recruited in the past, Michelle had to sift through hundreds of applications, to find only a few people who might be suited to the roles. DurhamWorks, who helps 16-24 year olds into education, employment and training, offered to support Community Integrated Care in their recruitment, pre-screening candidates and matching them to the job criteria and of course with the right values. They’ve had fantastic success with this free service and so far five young people have been offered roles as support workers.
The organisation found this a much more efficient way to recruit and they’ve ended up with some great new staff who have a genuine desire to work in social care. DurhamWorks also helped the candidates with the cost of travelling to interview and the cost of work clothes.
Michelle told us “DurhamWorks were able to match the skills and personalities of the young people, to the support requirements of our individual customers. We were also keen to provide opportunities to individuals in our local area which fits with our recruitment strategy perfectly and it’s this personal approach to sourcing local candidates that sets us apart from other care providers. We don’t use agency workers as we know how important it is for people we support to have that continuity. DurhamWorks has been a great way for us to source candidates from the community.”
