Café Verte

When catering training provider Licensed 2 Train launched the new Café Verte they needed help to find staff. DurhamWorks funded two Hospitality Apprentices and contributed towards the cost of uniforms and equipment for them.

Licensed2Train offer training for the catering industry and are based within the Greenhouse Office Facility in Annfield Plain. They recently launched a business lounge and café within the same building, on the Greencroft Industrial Estate.

As a new business, finances were tight for Café Verte, so Managing Director, Raymond McAleer, was delighted when a colleague from a neighbouring office recommended the DurhamWorks programme and the funding they could offer to employ a young person.

DurhamWorks Business Advisor, Nic, recommended two young people who met the business’ needs and arranged a DurhamWorks Learning Working Earning grant to fund part of their salary.

As well as money towards hiring new Hospitality Apprentices, Lauren and Natalia, DurhamWorks were also able to grant Café Verte funding to buy new uniforms and travel passes for them, as well as lockers and knife sets to help them in their new roles.

Raymond told us “Durhamworks has been a godsend for us. It’s been a very positive experience and the service has had a personal touch from start to end.”
